Since the onset of the pandemic, the FHA has helped millions of Americans weather this crisis by expanding mortgage payment relief options for distressed homeowners and maintaining a moratorium on foreclosures and evictions for homeowners with family mortgages insured by the FHA.

We believe the majority of borrowers who are behind on their mortgage payments are in arrears due to financial strains resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Communities of color are disproportionately affected by the pandemic and are also likely to constitute a large portion of homeowners behind on their FHA insured mortgage payments.

Our goal is to have as many troubled homeowners as possible request mortgage forgiveness from their service agent. HUD-approved housing counseling agencies are ready to help homeowners behind on mortgage payments take action to save their homes, but they must act now.
