Philadelphia 76ers superstar Joel Embiid is ready to let the past pass – a credit to the professionalism shown by the NBA MVP finalist in the face of a predicament involving his All-Star teammate Ben Simmons.
After asking for a trade and refusing to speak to the 76ers organization, Simmons is ready to speak with the team and possibly return this week.
Embiid revealed that he received the same type of silent treatment as the Sixers’ brass – and it took even longer.
âPersonally, I haven’t spoken to him since the end of the season,â Embiid said. âObviously I tried, but I wasn’t as successful as a lot of my teammates. Like I said, it’s unfortunate that the whole situation has happened, but like I said, we’re a better team with him on the pitch.
The 76ers could very well continue to look for a business partner to offload Simmons, but they haven’t been successful for nearly a year. Unless they take a slice of what they’re willing to receive from a potential suitor, the likelihood of Simmons dressing in the red, white, and Philadelphia blue increases every day.
Oh, to be a fly on the wall in that locker room when Simmons first walks in. However, Embiid will do what he can not to let it affect the team’s chemistry.
âI think there are going to be some adjustments, but it doesn’t have to be awkward,â he said. âWe are all professionals. We want to win. I want to win. He gives me the best chance of winning so that’s what I’m going to do.
âBut as to the comeback and stuff, we’ve made some adjustments and you have to buy and you’ll be fine. Last year we got the # 1 seed. So like I said , you have to buy and you will be fine. â
