Flyers vs Jets Betting Odds, Pick, and Prediction (February 1, 2022)

On Tuesday, the Philadelphia Flyers (14-22-8) will look to win back-to-back games for the first time since before Christmas, when they host the Winnipeg Jets (18-16-7) at the Wells Fargo Center. This is the first meeting this season between the teams. The Flyers travel to Winnipeg the final week of the season to face the Jets again on April 27.

Let’s get into our selection of Flyers vs Jets bets with predictions, odds and player prop analysis for this game on February 1, 2022.

Flyers-Jets Overview

The Flyers finally won a game. They tried to lose it, blowing two separate two-goal leads, including one in the third period, but Scott Laughton scored in overtime and the Flyers beat the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday 4-3 for their first win of 2022, breaking a 13-game skid without a win.

This does not mean that all their ailments have been cured. It’s still an imperfect hockey team. But, at the very least, they’ve played a better brand of hockey in recent games, despite losses, than they were at the start of the streak or even the way they played in their first streak without win of the season, a 10-player who ultimately cost coach Alain Vigneault his job.

Cam Atkinson carried the Flyers in that game with two goals, including his third shorthanded goal of the season, and he had an assist on Laughton’s game-winning goal. Claude Giroux has continued his consistent excellent play this season and now has three goals in the last five games, amassing 35 points in 41 games played this season.

This will be the last game before the all-star break. Giroux will be the only Flyers representative in the game, making his seventh appearance in the competition.

Carter Hart has also been strong in net for the Flyers. His numbers are a bit pedestrian, but considering his team lost 23 of 30, they could be a lot worse. He made 37 saves in the win over Los Angeles and will get the nod again tonight against the Jets.

Winnipeg comes to Philadelphia after a well-deserved 4-1 win on the road at St. Louis. Prior to that, the Jets had lost six straight (0-4-2) and are only 4-5-2 since the holiday break. They are five points from last place in the Western Conference playoffs.

The Jets will bring defenseman Josh Morrissey back to the roster tonight after missing the previous three games under COVID protocol.

Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck, who had an evening off in St. Louis, will also be back in the lineup tonight.

Hellebuyck, one of the best goaltenders in the NHL a season ago, has had his ups and downs for the Jets so far but will be looking to gain some confidence against a Flyers team that has hard to score.

Bets we love with a Flyers win

Gerry Mayhew OVER 0.5 goals (+400, BetMGM)

You might think we’re making fun of the Flyers with this pick, but we’re not. Mayhew was a minor league lifer who has an extended chance to show he belongs at the NHL level and, to his credit, was a great contributor to the Flyers.

He’s one of those guys who skates hard, works hard and he’s trying to make an impression on a team that’s evaluating everyone at this stage for a future role. He only played 11 games for the Flyers and scored three goals, but all three came in the last five games.

If the Flyers get production from players like Mayhew, who are playing in their last six, that may be enough to tip the scales in their favor.

The bookmakers don’t believe Mayhew has another goal in him, but if he gets one, 4 to 1 odds on your bet can go a long way to making your night and helping the Flyers win.

Paris we love with a Jets win

Kyle Connor OVER 0.5 goals (+140, FanDuel Sportsbook)

The Flyers are struggling to stop their opponents’ top scorers. That’s why they’re giving up so many hat tricks and power play goals.

Well, Connor is the man for the Jets. Their only All-Star, Connor has 24 goals and 44 points in just 41 games this season for Winnipeg. He has scored 10 goals in the Jets’ last 18 games.

Connor will have chances against the Flyers like Chris Kreider has chances against the Flyers when they face Rangers, and we all know how Kreider scores against the Flyers. Take Connor to the bank.

The bets we like regardless of the outcome

Carter Hart OVER 29.5 saves (-120, DraftKings Sportsbook)

Another thing about the Flyers is that they give up a lot of shots. Hart has made at least 30 saves in more than half of his starts this season (14 of 27) and the Jets are one of the top 10 teams in shots on goal, averaging 33.4 per game. This is one of those games where we expect high volume on Hart’s path, which means this bet is good no matter who you think might win.

Flyers vs Jets Prediction

The Flyers are playing better, but it’s hard to imagine a team that isn’t aspiring to the playoffs and is considering the vacation after tonight will have a lot of energy against a team still chasing a playoff berth. Winnipeg is not a dominant team, but they have more to play than the Flyers and will bring their best game. And if you want to try one more bet, you can get good value on the Jets with the puck line – especially with these two trends – the Flyers have lost 12 straight night games (we only point this out because when they have played the Kings, it was like 10 a.m. for the Los Angeles team) and the road team has covered the puck line in seven of the Jets’ last eight games.

Prediction: Jets 4, Flyers 2
